Description

The Vietnam Village on Galang Island, Batam, holds a rich history steeped in humanity and the struggle for survival. This location was once a refugee camp for Vietnamese who fled their country due to civil war in the late 1970s to early 1990s. The camp, built on 80 hectares of land, is managed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and facilitated by the Indonesian government. Although no longer inhabited, the various relics of the Vietnam Village now serve as an educational and touching historical tourist attraction.
